The evolutionary tree graphic below is the work of Leonard Eisenberg. Pharyngula reported that he has a geology walk in his hometown of Ashland, Oregon. Using the fast and fun research tool called “the internet” I found out it’s called the Briscoe Geology Park.

In Ashland there is also the North Mountain Park which looks really interesting. They have all these special kits for kids (hah! I can pretend) like a geology kit, one for identifying insects, one for identifying animal tracks and homes, and others. They have owl pellets. Love those. Apparently, they also have a model village based on the local Shasta Indians. That would be interesting.

Briscoe Geology Park is close to North Mountain Park. Eisenberg was part of the creation of an educational pamphlet about local geology.

The Jefferson Center is there too.

I think it’s time for a road trip. In fact I have a long weekend coming up in about 2 weeks. Maybe I can make it a 4-day thing.
