Christmas eve
I’ve never much liked this holiday. Love solstice, and usually make it a day to be out at both dusk and the next day’s dawn. I like the idea of the solar year and the fact that light comes and goes with movement. But Christmas has mostly been about presents and when I was a young single mother it was usually a panic. I always loved Christmas Eve because that meant the stores were closed and it was over.
Now that I don’t celebrate at all I am free to enjoy it. Today was spent mostly copying files and loading in Windows 7, and then reinstalling all my programs, but I did go out for a couple of short walks and I took time to get a gingerbread latte and sit outside at the coffee shop. That was rather nice since today is rainy and warm. And my night walk was very quiet with everyone’s Christmas lights turned on. Pretty.
Here is a picture of one contented cat. He didn’t mind at all how many hours we sat in front of the computer installing stuff. Now that it is mostly done, I feel just the same.

the cat queue
In my home, currently, are five cats. The consequence – they have to queue for shoulder time.
She is waiting, but with great attention to any opportunity to cut the line.

I have one on my shoulder currently, and this one is now in position one. The one behind the monitor is second in line.

just because
This is Thompson. He comes when I sit at my desk to help me. Here he is guarding my book bag.

just because
This is one of my cats. She loves sleeping on books. The one she’s sitting so neatly on is Aristotle’s Poetics.
Her name is Sweetheart. She used to be a feral cat. I enticed into my household over the course of a year. She’s by far the lightest cat I live with and the most gentle as well as the most skittish. But she loves living indoors now – and sleeping on my desk.

cat bodies
Yesterday was not a good day. It was stressful and by the time 19:30 came around I was already heading for bed. But once there, the cat that had surgery yesterday was walking in a much more steady fashion, and she was purring.
She (named Peyote – and don’t ask) spent the night in the hospital the previous day and had part of her tail amputated the next morning (perhaps cancer), as well as several teeth pulled and her body shaved. She had 2 shots, one of them a long-lasting painkiller (hence the odd stumbling walk and particularly loud purring). As I feel asleep last night, I could hear her breathing in the dark. Such an amazing sound, and calming.
This morning she required a longer-than normal massage and ear-rub. I didn’t mind. The rumble of her happiness is compensation enough.

The white banadage at the end of her tail covers the amputation site.

I’m impressed
Actors and actresses be damned. The creator of this is someone worth meeting.
